Becoming Someone Who Isn’t Addicted

In today’s episode, Dr. Jaffe confronts the tough questions that he’s frequently asked, “How do I beat my addiction?”, “What’s the best tool or technique?”, or ”Will this be the medication to fix me?” It turns out those are entirely the wrong questions to be asking. What you really need to be asking yourself (and exploring) is the “why” behind your addiction. The “fix” is not about finding a given tool; it’s about honest exploration and understanding the “why” behind your addiction. We shouldn’t waste our time thinking of all the ways we can “fix” our addiction — instead, we should learn how to become the kind of person who isn’t addicted.
